Tamarack: Larix laricina
Grows up to 40'-60' tall
These were dug up this spring from our nursery bed. They range from 18" -36" tall. Potted up in 2 gallon pots with organic manure-based compost. These trees always make me think of Aldo Leopold's Sand County Almanac
Hardy to Zone 2
Native to Northern North America
Tamarack is a deciduous conifer whose needles turn yellow before falling in autum. It is commonly found in boggy or swampy areas, though can tolerate other locations where moisture is consistant.
Some folks use "Larch" interchangebly with Tamarack. This latter name is a common name, often used for the Eastern Larch or American Larch (Larix laricina), which is a species of larch native to North America. All Tamarack are Larch, but not all Larch are Tamarack :)
