Grape: Petit Pearl and Itasca
These grapes were originally from Northeast Vine Supply, grown out for two years in our nursery bed, and then potted up this Spring in organic manure-based compost. They are healthy, robust plants that should grow fast and bear fruit this season or next with proper care.
Petite Pearl: A red wine variety known for its hardiness and late bud break. It produces a complex wine known to have aromas of blueberry, cherry, or plum fruits and hints of anise, almond, mint, and cassis. Bred by Tom Plocher and released in 2010. Moderate vigor.
Itasca: A white wine grape known for extreme cold hardiness and disease resistance. It produces medium- to large-sized clusters of fruit whose wine has notes of pear, quince, kiwi, gooseberry, and honeydew melon. First released in 2017. Medium- high vigor.
